This little species is a pretty addition to the sunny rock garden. It forms a low, tufted mound of narrow, grassy leaves, bearing clusters of tiny bright-pink flowers in late spring. Short-lived but will often self sow in well-drained locations, tolerating poor sandy or gravel soils. Native to Arctic areas of North America and Europe. Ruggedly hardy, but happiest in cool-summer regions.. Nice for edging, growing in rock walls or in alpine trough gardens. Flowers may attract butterflies.
