Also known as German Garlic, this is an ornamental species of onion. It forms a tuft of flat, grassy-looking green leaves. Upright stems rise taller in summer, with nodding buds that open to round balls of soft lavender-pink flowers. Good for cutting. An easy plant in the rock garden or perennial border, tolerating most soil conditions. Easily divided in spring. Deer resistant. Flowers are attractive to butterflies. Most likely hardy to Zone 3 or colder.
